The marketing of this move seems to have encouraged many vocal free-tier users to move to Bitwarden instead or another vendor if they're prepared to pay. However, if LastPass's internal numbers show that the vast number of free-tier users are either mobile OR desktop users and a small percentage use both then I can see an argument for the users of both to be encouraged to upgrade. It does not help with the "all your passwords where you need them" story that password managers should be telling. The decision to make free-tier users choose between mobile and desktop is harder to justify. I would expect support to improve if I were a business customer. They are no longer subsidising support for those that do not pay. Removing vendor support from free users should be a good thing for paying customers. When I started a password manager blog, I knew that there were enough new features and technologies to write about and explain. The first makes sense, the second may make sense, but has been badly marketed. Tl dr LastPass are removing vendor support for free-tier users and making them choose either desktop or mobile use only. ![]()
